Thanks for participating in The Tabor Boy Project!

On a late summer day in 1973 I first stepped aboard Tabor Boy as a wide-eyed, green freshman. Like thousands of other boys and girls who have crossed the rail of this amazing vessel, my life was forever changed that day. Four years later, I left Tabor Academy as a young adult confident that I could accomplish nearly anything I set my mind to doing.

In 2001, I became the executive director of the American Sail Training Association where I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of other sail training vessels and tall ships from across the world. From this unique perspective, my appreciation for my Tabor Boy experiences only grew stronger.

Several years ago, Patrick Collins, a Tabor student and Tabor Boy executive officer, wrote a book about the history of the schooner for his senior project. This website picks up on Pat Collins' great work.

Over the past year there has been a major transformation in how we use technology and the internet to communicate and work. Collaborative software and websites like this one allow people to co-create like not even imagined when Pat wrote his history. The Tabor Boy Project is an effort to capture the stories, photos and videos that continue to add to Tabor Boy's rich history and define and demonstrate her mission.

Please register, read, contribute and converse. The Tabor Boy Project is a living history work in progress that needs your contributions. Thanks for sharing!

High School Tall Ship Concordia Sinks Off Brazil

You probably have read the news reports of the high school tall ship Concordia capsizing and sinking off the coast of Brazil on Wednesday and all of the students and crew being rescued after 30 hours adrift in lifeboats. I've been… Continue

Sailing with Shipmates

One of the lasting effects of Tabor Boy experience is the strong friendships that shipmates establish. Rob Atkinson (Engineer '79) and I missed each other by a year at Tabor but met through the Tabor Boy Project and mutual friends/shipmates Jamie Hutton (XO '79) and Bob Glove… Continue

Maersk Alabama, Maersk Arkansas, Maersk Rhode Island and Tabor Boy

On March 18, 2009, Tabor Boy Project Crew Member Bob Beauregard proudly posted here about getting his first command, the Maersk Arkansas, a sister ship to the Maersk Alabama which trades a similar route. Got the nod today to join the big show Check out his post where you'll see a photo of the ship.

On March 29th, I received a message from Bob that he would be leaving for Kuwait to join the Maersk Arkansas on Tues… Continue

Hi Peter,
Personally I would only be able to schedule something on a weekend or evening in either Hoyt or Lyndon South auditorium. I do this for my leadership forum speakers, but the attendance of students is entirely optional---which sometimes draws a dissapointing crowd as student's interests are usually elsewhere. The good part about this option is that it has a wide scheduling ability.
What I would suggest as the best option however, would be at a Friday All-School presentation or at a chapel meeting (monday and thursday). At both of these weekly events, the entire school is avaiable and required to attend. If this sounds more appropriate for your presentation, we would need to reserve a space in the next week or so.

Please let me know if any of these are acceptable and, if any, which one you and SEA would prefer.

Hey Dude!
How's the little dude, little dudess, and admiral doing? I'm headed out tomorrow for a two week trial out to Andros Island, Bahamas. Should be interesting. I hope all is well on the home front. My best to the little people and admiral.
Best,
Jamie

Peter thanks again, and for alerting me to this site...this is fantastic -- and I love the 'aesthetics', too, including the navigation maps re: Sippican Harbor on the main page. Amazing work you have done, to collect photos et al. This will grow and grow over time.

Will definitely ping you next time I am up there and look forward to hearing about all you have going on. All best for a great Fall. jlc
