The Tabor Boy Project

This is an article from the Nantucket Inquire and Mirror’s Waterfront News column, August 3, 1978. Note that two other prominent sail ships are mentioned in this article but not with the same enthusiasm as with the “big schooner” TABOR BOY. The stu’n sail spars were first added during the summer of 1977 by Peter Mello and Bob Glover. Bob sailed aboard the vessel again during the summer of 1978 and persuaded Cap to put the spars back up. The sails improved the vessel’s speed on lighter summer days, were a novelty at sailing towns such as Nantucket, and were just plain fun to play with as can be seen in some of Peter’s pictures.
