Favorite Tabor Boy moment: Skeleton Crew delivery from Nantucket to Marion, on a blustery Monday in Mid-November 1978. This was a school day, where non-essential personnel were sent back to class after enjoying a Father-Son weekend Cruise out on to the Island. As I remember it, most of our Dad's left Sunday Night by ferry or plane to return to work.

I am constantly trying new techniques, to polish my leadership abilities. Sometimes, I will meet a hard-core group that is horrified that people can "Jump in" to get a job done. It is a good experience for young people who have never worked before, or who have never considered personally accepting responsibility for their own safety, or for the safety of others. So, in a sense, I am doing the exact same sort of pass-down training today, that you have written about in your Tabor Boy blogs, referring to the way we trained and executed 30 years ago.

What I have found that differs so from sailing on a merchant ship and sailing on a sail ship is that there when there is a job to be done; everybody jumps in on a sail ship. There is no, "Not my yob" attitude. You look after your shipmates!
