Favorite Tabor Boy moment
Many, many favorites with some wonderful people.
One memorable one:
Summer of 60 on a cruise back from Bermuda & Nassau, sailing into New York harbor. I was on the helm and the wind was gusty and all over the place from the city buildings. The SS Unites States was outbound. Cap Glaeser, as was his nature, was reluctant to shorten sail before we headed up the East River. After 5 or 6 commands for right rudder and finally hard right the bow was still rounding up to the left. After a few tense moments, and unprintable comments, he made some reference to becoming an exhibit at Battery Park, just as the bow came back to the right and we proceeded up the river into Long Island. What followed was one of many great sails, this time all the way up the sound.
